David E. Nykanen

David Nykanen has recently represented clients in the $10 million sale of a golf course and banquet center and a multi-million dollar purchase and assemblage for mixed-use commercial and retail developments. David Nykanen is a shareholder with SPC. His practice areas include real estate transactions, zoning law, land use, property taxation, corporate, and commercial litigation. He has over twelve years' experience in these areas of the law.
David Nykanen's professional memberships include: State Bar of Michigan, where he is deeply involved in the Real Property Law Section, serving on the Council of the Section, as well as former Chairperson of the Continuing Legal Education and State and Local Taxation Committees, Homeward Bound Seminars Coordinator for 2005-2006 and a Member of the Commercial Leasing Committee. In addition, he is a Member of the Section on Business Law. Mr. Nykanen is also a Member of the Oakland County Bar Association, where he served as Chairman of the Real Estate Committee (2002 - 2003).
Mr. Nykanen is the former Managing Editor of the Wayne Law Review. He is the author of numerious articles, including "The Danger of the Unintended Uncapping Issues In Estate Planning and Financing Transactions," "Proposal A of 1994 and Agricultural Property: Farmer, Developer and Title Company Beware," "Farm Aid: Tax Benefits for Agricultural Property," and "Proposal A of 1994 and Leases: Owner, Tenant and Buyer Beware." He has also authored several editions on "Real Property," and "Business Associations" in the Annual Survey of Michigan Law, Wayne Law Review.
Mr. Nykanen is a frequent speaker, instructor and lecturer at industry and bar association seminars and meetings.
David Nykanen is a graduate of Wayne State University, J.D., cum laude, 1995, and Oakland University, B.A., magna cum laude, 1992.
